With each new project, every organization has the potential to improve itself, to make itself better. An organization does not invest hundreds of thousands or millions of dollars every year to be the same or be worse. At the beginning of each project, a cost/benefit analysis is always done, but how many organizations go back and prove that those benefits were actualized?

In my experience, I have seen a thing or two when organizations migrate systems, and while most of these apply to any system conversion, I want to apply them to migrating from one integration engine to another.
"It's a compliment, I think?" I remember telling myself the first time I ever heard it. I was sitting across the desk from my first consulting client when I heard, "You know, you are not the typical consultant!". At the time, I passed over the statement because I didn't understand it. I was just being me, so why isn't that the typical consultant.
I have been working with integration for almost 25 years and I have always tried to maintain vendor neutrality with EMRs and integration engines. However, I often get asked my opinion on what’s my favorite. Each EMR and integration engine has their strong points and weaknesses.
I admit, I have been doing this for a long time. I have enjoyed my career and I have encountered so many talented and incredible people along the way. However, can I say that I have found that there is some misconception about integration. This article is not meant to be divisive or “point the finger” at anyone, but to help bring about understanding about some of the misconceptions of integration.
I recently finished two very large Epic implementations. Both implementations were very much alike – large multiple hospital networks. Both in the Northeast. Both implementing the same technology. However, I finished both projects with very different emotions. One I absolutely love doing and the other I couldn’t wait for it to be done.
